Nailing The Verbal Section

Management exams are mired in difficulties and challenges. Cracking CAT and other entrance examinations is no cakewalk; dig deeper into the nuances of these exams and the verbal section would stand tall on all the challenges.

Things are easily said than done. You study hard and you bell the CAT that, ideally, is the mantra. Sadly, with competition as cut throat as that witnessed in CAT and other management entrances, getting into the top B schools in India has gotten a tough nut to crack. Adding on to the pile of problems is the verbal section that gives students the dreaded jitters.

So the million dollar question is- How does one nail verbal without freaking out too much? We have a solution. Just read on!
•    Read, and then some more
If you are an avid reader, you have all the reason to rejoice in the world! Half the battle is won when you have literary, political or art work at the helm of your daily reading rituals. Verbal is all about taking the language English by the horns, and once you get into reading, the bull would not be that difficult to tame!
•    Work on Grammar
Grammar is a tricky area, but since you have jumped into the ring, let’s tackle this too. You can smoothen out the rough edges in your grammar by
a)    Reading. A lot.
b)    Conversing in English with your family members and friends.
c)    Looking out for grammatical errors in the write-ups you come across while reading.

•    Don’t mug up. Try to grasp the contextual meaning of the words learnt and incorporate them in your daily usage. This will you will get their meanings better without forgetting them ever. Also, take as many tests as possible. Practice, a lot, and you will find yourself sailing easily through it.

Reservation in B schools

What do people exactly mean when they are referred to as ‘minority candidates’? Has it something to do with being other than the ‘general’ category?

Apparently yes. Minority candidates are often considered the lucky lot that thrives on the crutches of reservation. Since times immemorial, the subject of reservation has been subjected to a lot of flak. Battles have been raged to slash it off the system. Yet, it continues to ride on the backs of our leaders. As omnipresent as it is, chucking it out of the system calls for nothing less than a revolution.

IILM : Top B Schools in India

The question that next arises is the area that the metaphorical monster has penetrated- engineering colleges, Delhi University Colleges, and to top it all even MBA colleges, too. It might come as a surprise to those who never knew top B schools in India under the dark purview of reservation. It’s surprising, as well as sad that institution as prestigious as IIMs have not remained untouched.

Yes, minority students do have an advantage over general students. A massive advantage that weaves a huge difference between what is done what is ought to be done in the education system. National level government B schools like IIMs, IIFTs, NITIE, FMS, TISS have over 27% reservation for OBCs, over 15% for scheduled classes, 7.5% for Scheduled tribe, 3% for differently abled, and the rest, quite obviously, for general. The distribution, quite inarguably, is disturbing.

Apart from the above mentioned categories, that of LGBT also gets the tick mark of being the minority. While Indian B schools support reservation, International B schools are relatively untouched from the malaise, as some call it. Reservation is done to bring equality into the system, but what it ends up doing is robbing the system of equality. A big divide between the general and the minority speaks volumes about it.

You will realize how money is earned. On one hand wherein it’s a no secret that many of us are unfamiliar to the apt definition of giving right start.

Cat Refurbished: Boon Or Bane?

Change is obstinate. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, it would still creep into our lives. Be it negative or positive, it has that uncanny ability to shape up our lives. And that’s precisely the reason why many students are now frightened about their future, for a major change has been introduced into the CAT pattern, effective from this year onwards.

Common Aptitude Test, popularly known as CAT, is one of the most prominent (read difficult) entrance exams for admission into MBA colleges. The very thought of taking CAT sends a chill down people’s spine for it indeed is one of the trickiest exams in India. What has compounded the situation and left people bamboozled is the revised pattern of the exam.

The number of questions has increased and the time too has been ramped up to 170 minutes (from the 140 minutes). Since both- the number of questions and time has witnessed a snowball effect; the percentile too is expected to hover somewhere higher in the stratosphere. Clearly, a tougher percentile cut-off is expected to get into the Best MBA colleges in India.

And if you think that this is it, well, the tone of this sentence alone will tell you that it’s not. In a bid to improve the CAT 2014, it will only be conducted over a short span of two days, consisting of four sessions. The exams will be held on November 16 and November 22.  As an added advantage, students will be allowed to hop from one section to another and devote more time to the section they think they can do better in. The flexibility has enabled students to heave a sigh of relief.

When a whiff of change was spread in the air regarding the changes, there were some serious apprehensions. For a student who has been preparing for the exam for over many years and is giving repeated attempts just to get into any of the top colleges in Delhi, will now have to put in some pains to get accustomed to the new pattern.

Though many professors of the best MBA colleges in India haven’t refrained themselves from saying that the new modus operandi will tone out the difficulty level, students are still fearful. After almost a year of preparation on the old pattern the newer one will be a pain to the mind. As it turns out, November 16 and 22 will tell how things turn out to be!

MBA students: Improving Communication skills

Top MBA Colleges in India suggest that Business Management candidates need to master their interaction abilities and communication skills to execute well in a reputed company or institution and keep their nerves intact when faced with queries that examine them in the business world. They would certainly have a higher preference over others, if they have excellent and impressive interaction capabilities.

Top 10 MBA institute in India suggest convenient tips to boost interaction capabilities

IILM :- Top B Schools in India
Read- Reading is the main contributor to effective communication. Pick up any journal, diary, and story book or for that matter a newspaper and do make it a routine to read it out loud. It has usually been observed that when an individual talks, he falls short of words. The words are somewhere concealed in his mind and somehow do not follow out in his talks. When you review and read out loud, after some time, words automatically fall in place which further boosts your interaction abilities. If you come across any sort of a new word, do look at its significance and attempt to include it in your speech. Reviewing likewise enhances your basic expertise and makes you familiar with just what is taking place around you. Check out new books or journals which interest you.

Hold On- Do not be in a rush to refine your interaction abilities in a day. There is no medicine or any sort of magical potion which could boost your communication abilities in 24 hours. You need to be patient and provide yourself time. Never ever feel dejected if others speak better than you, as an alternative note, seek their assistance. It is appropriately mentioned that hard work and constant practice polishes your skills- this is a great deal. Whatever language you want to master, try to communicate in the very same language with your family and friends for the best flow of words. Never feel ashamed if you are wrong, learn from your errors. Stand in front of the mirror and talk out loud. Ask questions and answer them yourself. Be your own critique- it works!

One has to be very certain and should take on the best perspective. Nothing is feasible if you do not have the right approach and mind-set.  Be self-motivated to interact effectively. Whenever you learn a brand-new word, give yourself a treat.
